Assam's Margherita under Tinsukia district inaugurated a mega Jhumur dance training workshop today, January 28 marking a significant step in the Assam Government's mission to secure Guinness World Records recognition for the traditional tribal Jhumur dance. This follows the historic inclusion of the Bihu dance in the global record books.
Organized by the Margherita sub-division administration, the workshop is being held at the Margherita central playground from January 28 to January 31. Approximately 300 Jhumur dance artists from various tea gardens in the sub-division are participating in this grand initiative.
At the conclusion of the training, 81 proficient dancers will be selected to represent the region at the main event in Guwahati. Scheduled for February 24, the event will see a spectacular performance by 8,000 Jhumur dancers from across Assam at Sarusajai Stadium, aiming to set a new Guinness World Record.
The event will be attended by prominent dignitaries, including India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with representatives from the Guinness World Records.
The inaugural session of the workshop was graced by key officials and local dignitaries, including Parikshit Thaodam, Sub-Divisional Officer of Margherita; Rohit Kumar Jadav, Block Development Officer; Pronamika Konwar, Public Relations Officer in charge; Dicen Tipamiya, representative of MLA Bhaskar Sharma; Ranjit Borpujari, President of the Mega Jhumur Dance Margherita Sub-Division Management Committee; and Jitul Nath, Chief Engineer of Margherita Municipality. The event also drew enthusiastic participation from local residents, adding to its grandeur.
