The 43rd edition of the Me-Dam-Me-Phi festival has started in Margherita, with a two-day celebration on January 30 and 31. This traditional festival, observed by the Tai Ahom community, honours ancestors and prays for the prosperity of the community, state, and country.
Held at the Chow Chang Ron in New Colony, the festival features a variety of cultural events, including a quiz competition, traditional games, and a cultural procession. A prize-giving ceremony, flag-hoisting, and meetings of community representatives are also part of the programme.
On the opening day, Assam Human Rights Commission's Ajay Kumar Sahu was among the distinguished guests in attendance.
The festival will conclude on January 31 with the Fhuralong Puja, a cultural rally, an open session, a mass feast, and a cultural programme, as shared by Rana Jyoti Neog, the general secretary of the reception committee.
