Assam cabinet minister and BJP leader Jayanta Malla Baruah slammed the state Congress unit president Bhupen Borah after a district president joined the saffron party.
Jayanta Malla Baruah said, "Congress leader Bhupen Borah claimed if awarding a contract of Rs 12 to the district president can make him leave Congress and join BJP then I think if we give a contract of Rs 25 crore then even Bhupen Borah will resign as state president and join BJP."
Further, the minister asserted that he is capable of issuing contracts of Rs 25 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission hence invited Bhupen Borah to accept the contract and join the saffron party.
Malla Baruah also claimed that by giving a Rs 30 crore contract to Rakibul Hussain and a Rs 40 crore contract respectively to MP Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress leaders will also join the BJP.

The minister's remarks came in response to the Congress party president's remarks after Nagaon district Congress president Suresh Bora joined the BJP.
The state Congress president said the recently resigned Congress district president had joined the BJP because of the contract of Rs 12 crore.
He also said that people who believe in Indian civilization and culture today cannot form a Congress party.
The Assam BJP unit today received a shot in the arm in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls next year as two Congress leaders jumped ship and joined the saffron party.
Veteran Congress leader and president of the Nagaon district Congress unit, Suresh Borah today joined the BJP. Along with him, Assam Youth Congress working president Poritush Roy also joined the BJP. Apart from the two Congress leaders, Trinamool Congress leader Dilip Kumar Sharma also joined the BJP in the same ceremony today.
Apart from them, several other former Congress party workers also joined the BJP today during the ceremony.
The joining ceremony held at the BJP state headquarters in Guwahati today was attended by Assam BJP president Bhabesh Kalita, and ministers Pijush Hazarika and Ranoj Pegu, among others.
