As the panchayat elections draw near, political fervor has intensified across Assam with both the ruling BJP and opposition parties ramping up their campaigns. In a late-night rally on Tuesday, April 29 at Trilachon village, top BJP leaders such as minister Jayanta Mallabaruah made a show of strength, appealing to voters ahead of the local body polls.
The public meeting witnessed the participation of Assam's Public Health Engineering Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah and Guwahati MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi, who campaigned in support of Prahlad Biswas, the BJP candidate for Ward No. 6 of the Nagarbera-Chamariya Zila Parishad.
Local residents greeted the BJP delegation with traditional drums and cheers, lending a festive yet politically charged atmosphere to the event.
Addressing the crows, BJP leaders Jayanta Mallabaruah and Bijuli Medhi criticized independent candidates, branding them as “engine-less contenders” and urging voters to "strengthen the engine".
Without naming anyone, Jayanta Mallabaruah indirectly targeted Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, linking opposition politics with national security issues. He also condemned the recent terror incident in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, while appealing to the public not to support candidates allegedly backed by Pakistan-leaning ideologies or Congress affiliations who are 'anti-nationals'.
In a provocative remark, one Jayanta Mallabaruah claimed that Congress ticket distribution is influenced by money, further alleging that public anger has escalated to the point where people are now "beating them up" in response.
Minister Baruah commented on the luxurious residence of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council CEM Tuliram Ronghang saying that whatever he is listening or watching is all from TV.
