In a display of humanity amidst the flood crisis in Cachar, Parimal Suklabaidya, the Minister of Transport, Excise & Fisheries, Government of Assam extended a helping hand to a stranded family with a two-day-old newborn.
Speaking to India Today NE, Suklabaidya recounted the encounter on the highway as he was en route to assess the flood situation in the region. He described how he came across the distressed family, who were without transportation and struggling to make their way home to Panchgram after the mother had given birth to their child at the Silchar Medical College.
Moved by their plight, Suklabaidya, despite the risks offered them a ride in his vehicle, ensuring their safe journey back home. Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to assist the family, Suklabaidya remarked on the blessing of being able to serve those in need.
Regarding the flood crisis in Barak Valley, Suklabaidya informed that the region has seen casualties, with two reported deaths in Hailakandi and several others in Barak Valley. He assured that the government is actively engaged in resolving the crisis with relief camps established to aid flood victims. Despite challenges posed by submerged areas, efforts are underway to mitigate the impact of the floods and provide assistance to affected people.
