Assam cabinet minister Ranjit Kumar Dass today asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on its way to winning 11 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections next year in the state.
Dass made the statement on the sidelines of addressing a public rally in Salbari. With Lok Sabha polls expected to take place in March-April next year, the BJP has begun reaching out to the voters while holding rallies in BTR and other areas of the state.
Talking to media, Dass said that while the party is setting a target of 12 seats, the BJP will win nothing less than 12 seats atleast.
"The Bharatiya Janata Party has a trend of expanding. Once we had just 4 Lok Sabha MPs, later it became 7 MPs when Sarbananda Sonowal was the party president. When I was the president, it rose to nine. And now under the Chief Minister and the current state president, it should not be less than 11 seats. But still we are hoping for 12 seats. But we can assure the BJP and its allies won't win any seat less than 11," said Dass.
The Assam cabinet minister further said that as per the understanding between the BJP and its allies, the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat will most likely got to UPPL for contesting in the elections next year.
"The BJP is working closely with its allies the AGP, UPPL, and the GSP. Our allies will get seats as per the understanding. There is a 99 per cent chance that the Kokrajahr seat will go to the UPPL. It is yet to be decided though. The BJP is keeping its vision clear so that rumours dont spread in the BRE region which can cause dissensions. We are carrying forward with our duties as an ally," said Dass.
