With the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections fast approaching, political campaigning has intensified across the region. On Sunday, September 15 Assam Cabinet Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass addressed a massive rally at Chalikhanda Bazar playground in Baksa district’s 21 Salbari constituency, a minority-dominated region, extending his support to BJP candidate Chakradhar Dass.
In his address, the minister promised that if the BJP secures power in the BTC, elections for the Village Council Development Committees (VCDC) would be held in a democratic and transparent manner, ensuring greater participation of local residents.
Taking a strong stance against eviction drives targeting minority areas, Dass declared:
“If evictions are carried out outside forest land, I will personally stand with the people to stop them.”
He further alleged that fear was being instilled among minority communities in the name of eviction through mobile videos, which he termed as “baseless propaganda.”
Speaking to the media after the rally, Dass asserted that the political outlook of minority communities had shifted significantly, with growing support in favour of the BJP.
“Evictions will only happen on forest land, and that too as per rules. There is no such situation here. Every eligible family will receive land pattas under the government’s policy,” he said.
Projecting BJP’s strength in the polls, Dass expressed confidence that the party would secure at least 18 seats in the upcoming BTC elections.
