Assam: Minor girl in live-in relationship found hanging

Sensation prevailed in Piyali Nagar in Moran after the body of a minor girl, aged around 16, was recovered from a rented house.

According to information available, the girl had reportedly been living at the rented house for around one-and-a-half months with a 19-year-old youth in what was described as a live-in relationship.

The girl's body was found hanging inside the house on October 1.

The youth, identified as Dwijyoti Gogoi, a resident of Majumelia village under Khowang police station, has reportedly been absconding since the incident. His mobile phone has also been switched off.

While Gogoi is 19 years old, the girl was reportedly below 18 and therefore a minor.

Neighbours reportedly said the two often quarrelled and that an argument had taken place between them on the morning of the incident.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. 

The exact cause of death and whether it was a case of suicide or involved any foul play will become clear after the absconding youth is traced and questioned, along with other evidence collected during the investigation.
