A man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl with disabilities in Assam's Moran after the abuse came to light when the survivor was found to be pregnant, police said.
The accused, identified as Rawan Mundari, a resident of No. 2 Bejpathar village under Moran Police Station, was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
According to the police, the accused had allegedly been sexually assaulting the minor over a prolonged period. He allegedly threatened the survivor to prevent her from disclosing the abuse to anyone.
The alleged crime came to light after the girl was recently found to be pregnant. Following the discovery, her family members and local residents informed the Moran Police.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim's family, police registered a case and launched an investigation. The accused was subsequently arrested and produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
The victim's family has demanded the strictest possible punishment for the accused.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
