Amid the cheer and festivity of Rongali Bihu, a heart-wrenching incident unfolded at Ghiladhari Chook, Chaodangpathar, where the crops of Anand Bora, a well-known and ideal farmer of the region, were brutally destroyed by unidentified miscreants on Saturday night.
According to reports, the miscreants infiltrated Bora’s farmland under the cover of darkness and cut down a significant portion of his vegetable crops, including bottle gourd, brinjal, and okra, which had been flourishing on 5 bighas of land.
The attackers didn't stop there—they went on to vandalize his agricultural premises, breaking several chairs and other pieces of furniture stored on the farm.
Anand Bora had also cultivated tomatoes on 10 bighas of land and was simultaneously growing a variety of vegetables like ridge gourd (jatilao), green chili (bhot jolokia), and leafy greens.
The farmer had recently made profits by selling over 200 units of bottle gourd, brinjal, and okra during the Bihu season.
Bora, devastated by the incident, has filed a complaint with the Merapani police, urging immediate action. "They destroyed not just my crops, but my hope," said Bora, his eyes brimming with tears.
He now anxiously awaits justice and the arrest of those responsible for the act, which he described as a deliberate attempt to sabotage his hard-earned livelihood.
The police have initiated an investigation, though no arrests have been made yet.
