The Mising community of Assam celebrated their agriculture-based festival, Ali Aye Ligang, with great enthusiasm today, February 19 marking the occasion with vibrant cultural performances and traditional rituals. The festival was observed across the state, with Sivasagar witnessing particularly grand celebrations.
In Kankanal Nagar, near Sivasagar town, members of the Mising community gathered at the Murong Ghar courtyard early in the morning to commence the festivities. The celebrations began with auspicious rituals, followed by Oinitom (folk songs) and the Gumrag dance, creating a lively and joyous atmosphere.
The festival brought together Mising people from Sivasagar and its rural areas, as they united in a centralized celebration to honor their rich cultural heritage and traditions. The event served as a reminder of the community’s deep-rooted connection to agriculture and its commitment to preserving indigenous customs.
