Amidst ongoing action against action against illegal narcotics trade, Morigaon police arrested a man accused of running a cannabis supply network while holding a key local security post.
Acting on a tip-off, a special police team launched a raid in the Khandajan area of the district, apprehending the suspect, identified as Gautam Sarkar. Officers also seized a quantity of cannabis from his possession during the operation.
According to police sources, Sarkar allegedly exploited his position as secretary of the Khandajan Village Defence Party to facilitate the illegal trade over an extended period. Investigators suspect that he used his influence and access to local security resources to shield his activities from detection.
Sarkar was taken into custody and brought to the Morigaon Sadar police station, where he is undergoing intensive interrogation. Authorities are working to trace the source of the contraband and identify possible accomplices involved in the supply chain.
Police officials have reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on the narcotics trade in the district, warning that those involved in drug trafficking will face strict legal action regardless of their social or official standing.
