Assam: MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi attends Bongaon Durga Puja, pays tribute to late singer Zubeen Garg

On the occasion of Mahasashthi, the 37th Bongaon Sarbajanin Durga Puja commenced in Boko with the presence of Guwahati Lok Sabha MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi.

The parliamentarian paid heartfelt homage to the late cultural icon Zubeen Garg by garlanding his photograph at the Durga Puja premises. She also offered prayers and sought blessings from Goddess Durga at the pandal.

In a move reflecting the state’s support for cultural traditions, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a grant of ₹10,000 each for Durga Puja committees across Assam. The Bongaon Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee was among the recipients of this financial assistance.

The committee also conveyed that in the wake of Zubeen Garg’s sudden demise, all planned cultural programmes and celebrations have been cancelled this year. The festivities will be confined strictly to religious rituals, marking a solemn observance alongside the festival celebrations.
