Residents of Na-Bakharbori village in Assam’s Morigaon district on August 17 approached the electricity department seeking a permanent solution to the area’s long-standing low-voltage problem.
A group of villagers visited the office of the Morigaon Electrical Sub-Divisional Engineer and submitted a petition signed by local residents. They travelled to the office by e-rickshaw at their own expense and met Sub-Divisional Engineer Dhaneshwar Barman.
The petition called for urgent measures to improve the village’s electricity supply, including the installation of a new transmission system and a higher-capacity transformer.
The residents said the power problem had been raised before the election, when assurances were given that it would be addressed. They said that following the election, residents of Na-Bakharbori exercised their franchise and elected the candidate as the Ward No. 8 member of Garmari Gaon Panchayat.
However, the villagers alleged that the assurance to resolve the electricity problem had not been fully implemented, leaving the low-voltage issue unresolved.
After receiving the petition, Barman assured the residents that the matter would be taken up seriously. He said steps would be initiated at the earliest towards installing a higher-capacity transformer in the village.
The residents are now awaiting action from the department, with the visit aimed at securing a lasting solution rather than temporary relief from the recurring power problem.
