Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Debashish Sarma has announced that the district administration will soon launch a major eviction drive to clear large tracts of illegally occupied government and reserved forest land. The move comes after multiple notices and an extended grace period provided to encroachers failed to yield complete compliance.
According to official sources, thousands of bighas across various revenue circles in Nagaon have been encroached upon, with several individuals reportedly constructing permanent houses and cultivating farmland on government land and forest zones.
The administration had issued notices in September asking encroachers to vacate the land. While a section of occupants voluntarily removed their structures, many requested additional time citing ongoing crop cultivation. In a humanitarian gesture, the district administration granted a three-month extension.
However, despite the lapse of the extended deadline, a significant number of encroachers have not vacated the area. The authorities have now adopted a firm stance and confirmed that eviction operations will be initiated shortly.
To ensure a peaceful and orderly process, the administration has once again urged all remaining encroachers to vacate the land voluntarily before the deployment of excavators and enforcement personnel.
