The National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB), an armed organisation currently under a ceasefire, observed its sixth foundation day at Auguri in Jaharbari, Assam’s Kokrajhar district, with its leaders urging the government to expedite peace talks and address the organisation’s demands.
The day-long programme began with NLFB chairman I.B. Bungthigora hoisting the organisation’s flag. This was followed by army chief M. Batha paying floral tributes to deceased members of the organisation.
An open meeting was also held as part of the foundation day observance, during which NLFB leaders expressed dissatisfaction over the progress of the peace process.
The leaders alleged that the government had failed to take the necessary steps to advance negotiations, despite six years having passed since the ceasefire came into effect.
The organisation called on the government to initiate discussions at the earliest to address its demands and take the peace process forward.
The foundation day observance comes amid the NLFB’s call for renewed engagement with the government over the outstanding issues related to the peace process.
