The 74th Bodo Literary Day, also known as Boro Tunlai San, was celebrated with enthusiasm across Assam and neighbouring states today, November 16, marking the foundation day of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS).
In Kokrajhar, the Kokrajhar Primary Bodo Sahitya Sabha organised a ceremonial programme at Khargaon. The Sabha flag was hoisted by its president, Supen Chandra Brahma, followed by a solemn tribute to the martyrs of the Bodo language and literature movement. A series of literary competitions and activities were held for students to commemorate the day and promote linguistic pride among the younger generation.
Educational institutions including Bodoland University, Kokrajhar Government College, and Dr. Sobha Brahma Music and Fine Arts College marked the occasion with special events, discussions, and cultural activities on their campuses.
The day was also observed by district and unit committees of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, as well as schools and colleges across Assam, West Bengal, and Meghalaya, where significant Bodo-speaking populations reside.
Bodo Literary Day commemorates the establishment of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha on November 16, 1952, with Jaybhadra Hagjer as its first President and Sonaram Thaosen as the founding Secretary—an event that laid the foundation for the advancement of Bodo language, literature, and cultural identity.
