Several socio-cultural and student organizations of Boko have jointly appealed to the Durga Puja committees across Greater Boko region to honour late music icon Zubeen Garg during the upcoming festivities.
The appeal was made on Sunday, September 28 through a press conference jointly organized by the South-West Kamrup Students’ Union (AASU), Boko Regional Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU), Bogai: Cultural and Sports Orientation, Boko Regional Rongali Bihu Convention, and Boko Sports Association.
The organizations urged Puja committees to light lamps in front of Garg’s portrait and offer floral tributes at every Puja venue as a mark of respect to the artist who immensely enriched Assamese culture and identity.
They further appealed for restraint during the celebrations, requesting that loud sound systems and cultural programmes be suspended. The groups also suggested that idol immersions be conducted with only a limited number of devotees to maintain a solemn and respectful atmosphere.
According to the organizers, these symbolic gestures would not only pay tribute to the late singer but also uphold the sanctity of the Durga Puja celebrations in the Boko region.
