Anxiety has gripped residents of Alamganj Part-IX under the Gauripur Revenue Circle as the Dhubri district administration prepares to carry out an eviction drive on October 31, covering approximately 2,850 bighas of government land.
According to reports, the district administration has completed preparations for the drive and warned alleged encroachers to vacate the land. Several families have reportedly started dismantling their homes and relocating voluntarily ahead of the operation.
Residents facing eviction have expressed distress and appealed to the government to provide alternative housing arrangements. Some families claimed they had purchased the land from private individuals and were unaware that it belonged to the government.
“We are not Bangladeshi nationals. We were born here, and our grandparents lived and died here. We purchased the land from certain individuals. We did not know it was government land,” some residents told the media.
The administration, however, maintains that the land belongs to the government and that the eviction will be carried out in accordance with the law. Officials have urged residents to cooperate and vacate the land voluntarily.
The situation remains tense as affected families await clarity on rehabilitation and alternative housing arrangements ahead of Sunday's proposed eviction drive
