Assam Agriculture Minister Pijush Hazarika said the state government is working on a comprehensive plan to promote large-scale horticulture and Rabi crop cultivation across the state, while also providing compensation to farmers affected by the recent floods.
Speaking in Jorhat, Hazarika said the Agriculture Department is preparing a detailed plan to expand horticulture in a bigger and more organised manner.
“We are planning it and working on it. Our department is preparing a big plan for how to start and expand horticulture on a large scale,” Hazarika said.
He said the government is also committed to supporting farmers in restarting agricultural activities following the flood situation, including plans for Rabi crop cultivation in affected areas.
The minister added that compensation would be provided to flood-affected farmers, while the government is simultaneously working on measures to revive agricultural activities and strengthen horticulture in the state.
Hazarika said the department would implement the plans in a comprehensive manner with the objective of expanding horticulture and providing additional livelihood opportunities to farmers.
