Simla police in Baksa, Assam arrested one Mirajul Haque, a key suspect in an ATM fraud case. Haque, a resident of Kayakuchi Bonbahar in Barpeta district, was apprehended following a secret tip-off. He was presented before the Mushalpur court on Saturday.
According to police sources, Haque was part of a larger gang involved in ATM fraud. He, along with two associates, targeted Anand Boro, an assistant teacher from Kamardaisa High School. The incident occurred at an ATM in Simla, where the gang tricked Boro into revealing his PIN and swapped his ATM card without his knowledge.
Shortly after the switch, Rs 40,000 was withdrawn from Boro’s account in two transactions. Additionally, the gang used the stolen card to purchase a gold chain and locket worth Rs 70,000 in Barpeta Road. Boro only realized the fraud after receiving transaction alerts on his phone. He then checked his ATM card and immediately reported the incident to Simla police.
Following his complaint, the police launched an investigation and earlier arrested another suspect, Nur Uddin Khan (25), from Kayakuchi Bhaukhamuri in Barpeta. Khan has already been sent to jail.
The police are continuing their probe to dismantle the entire gang and prevent further fraudulent activities.
