Assam police crackdown on illegal liquor trade in Bajali; four cartons seized, shop owner flees

A late-night operation carried out by Sarupeta Police in Bajali's Puthimari area led to the seizure of four cartons of illegal liquor, sparking widespread public reaction. 

The raid, supported by vigilant local residents, has once again brought the spotlight back on the thriving illicit liquor trade allegedly operating with impunity in the region.

According to sources, the targeted shop had been under suspicion for some time, with residents repeatedly raising concerns about illegal alcohol sales. The raid confirmed these fears, but the shop owner managed to escape upon receiving word of the police's approach.

The incident has also reignited serious allegations of collusion between certain members of the Bajali Excise Department and those engaged in the illegal liquor business. 

Locals allege that a section of excise officials has been turning a blind eye to these activities, if not outright enabling them. This perceived nexus is believed to be one of the primary reasons for the unchecked spread of illicit liquor trade in the area.
