A police officer in Bilasipara, Dhubri is facing serious allegations of extortion and assault after reportedly detaining a dumper driver and demanding money for his release.
The accused, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tukul Boro of Bilasipara Police Station, allegedly took the driver into custody on February 13 while he was unloading stones in the Beltoli area. According to the complaint, Boro assaulted the driver at the station and demanded Rs 1 lakh to let him go.
Under pressure, the victim reportedly agreed to pay Rs 40,000. He managed to pay Rs 20,000 in cash, while Rs 10,000 was transferred via PhonePe by his brother, Salam Mondal, to All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) leader Mirajul Islam, who allegedly acted as an intermediary for the police officer.
The incident came to light after an FIR was lodged with the Dhubri District Superintendent of Police (SP). The victim has since claimed that he is still being pressured to pay the remaining Rs 10,000.
The allegations have sparked public outrage, with calls for strict action against OC Boro. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement, and an investigation is currently underway.
