Assam Police recovered a hijacked consignment of 107 cartons of Mastaba pan masala early Thursday morning from Lochanebari, 2 No. Jogipara in the Boko area. The consignment had been hijacked three days earlier in Barama, located in Baksa district.
The recovery was made during a swift operation led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl. SP) Geetartha Dev Sharma of the Baksa Crime Branch, in coordination with Mandira Outpost officer Bijoy Goswami and a team of law enforcement personnel.
The stolen goods were found concealed at the residence of Mafizul Islam (33), a local resident of Jogipara, who has since been taken into custody for his alleged role in storing the hijacked consignment.
The breakthrough came after the arrest of nine suspects involved in the hijacking, who were apprehended earlier at Jorabat. Interrogation of the accused, including Mofidul Ali from Krishnai (Goalpara) and Khairul Ali from Karigaon, Balijhar (Boko), led police to the hidden location.
The police team has since begun transporting the recovered cartons back to Barama as part of the continuing investigation.
Authorities have stated that further interrogation is underway to determine the full extent of the smuggling network involved.
