The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) will contest the upcoming Assam Assembly elections as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), BTC Chief and senior BPF leader Hagrama Mohilary said on January 4.
Mohilary made the statement while speaking to the media on the sidelines of the foundation stone–laying ceremony for a 100-seat, three-storeyed RCC girls’ hostel at Bineshwar Brahma Engineering College in Kokrajhar. The project, estimated at Rs 8.20 crore, will be funded by the North Eastern Council (NEC) for the 2025–26 financial year.
He said the BPF is already a constituent of the NDA and is fully prepared to contest the 2026 Assam Assembly elections under the alliance. Mohilary added that seat-sharing arrangements among NDA partners would be finalised by the alliance leadership in due course.
However, he categorically ruled out any seat-sharing arrangement with the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). While acknowledging that UPPL is part of the NDA at both the state and central levels, Mohilary said the BPF would not share Assembly seats with UPPL in the BTC area.
He further clarified that the BPF would have no objection if the NDA leadership allocates seats to UPPL outside the BTC region, but reiterated that there would be no seat-sharing agreement with UPPL within the BTR.
