With the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections on the horizon, Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro has underscored that politics must take a back seat to peacebuilding and regional development in the Bodo heartland.
Speaking to the media, Boro highlighted the positive transformation in the Bodo areas following the signing of the Bodo Peace Accord in 2020. “After the 2020 accord, the Bodo areas have become peaceful, and the Bodo people are working towards their goals through various activities,” he said.
The CEM reiterated the community’s commitment to rebuilding and regaining lost ground. “Politics is a secondary concern. First of all, we need to prioritise building a society, regaining what we have lost, and developing the regions,” Boro stated.

He also expressed hope for the long-awaited passage of the 125th Amendment to the Indian Constitution, which is expected to strengthen the Sixth Schedule and provide more autonomy and governance powers to the BTC. “We are now waiting for the 125th amendment… which will strengthen the Sixth Schedule,” he added.
Boro echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India), aligning the aspirations of the Bodo people with the national agenda of inclusive growth and regional empowerment.
The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) has witnessed relative calm and progress since the 2020 accord, and the upcoming BTC elections are expected to test the region’s evolving political dynamics under the leadership of Boro and his United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL).
