A sit-in protest was held this morning at 7 AM at Basugaon Railway Station. The protest was organised by the Assam Pradesh Shiv Sena with support from the Assam Railway Passengers’ Association, Basugaon Traders’ Association, and the All BTR E-Rickshaw Association.
The protestors demanded the restoration of stoppages for passenger express trains at Basugaon, Kokrajhar, Gossaigaon, and Salakati stations. They said these stoppages were removed during the Covid pandemic.
Assam Pradesh Shiv Sena leader Shibu Chanda warned that if the railway authorities do not meet their demands by 26 August, they will intensify their agitation.
This may include gheraoing the Alipurduar Divisional Railway Office and launching a militant movement in the coming days.
