Assam: Protest erupts in Sribhumi district over vandalism of Jawaharlal Nehru statue in Lakhipur

The District Congress Committee staged a strong protest in Sribhumi following the alleged vandalism of a statue of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, at Lakhipur in Cachar district.

The protest was held in front of the district Congress office, Indira Bhawan, where District Congress president Tapas Purkayastha, vice president Subrata Deb, Bishwajit Ghosh and several other party leaders and workers participated in a demonstration, raising slogans against the incident.

The leaders demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and called for exemplary punishment. They warned that if strict action is not taken against the miscreants at the earliest, the party will launch a stronger agitation in the coming days.
