Congress workers in Karimganj took to the streets to protest against Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha's recent remarks allegedly comparing the Congress office to that of a Madrasa. The protesters, expressing their strong opposition, set fire to placards bearing Purkayastha's image on the highway outside the district Congress office.
Protesters raised slogans against Purkayastha while demanding his immediate resignation from the party.
The president of the Karimganj district Congress, Rajat Chakraborty, issued a direct challenge to Purkayastha, daring him to leave the Congress party and face a fresh election.

Chakraborty accused Purkayastha of betraying the party that shaped his political career. "He is a by-product of the Indian National Congress. What was his identity before Congress? He contested elections for the first time in 2011. And now he is commenting against those 80 percent voters for whom he won the elections," Chakraborty remarked.
Chakraborty further questioned Purkayastha's loyalty and integrity, urging him to resign from his MLA seat and seek a fresh mandate. "He is still sucking the blood of Congress," Chakraborty asserted, criticizing Purkayastha's recent comparison to a madrasa and labeling his comments as divisive and unwarranted.
