Assam Cabinet Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass on Sunday inaugurated the main entrance of the Kamatapur Autonomous Council Secretariat at North Salmara in Bongaigaon district.
During the event, Minister Dass addressed political queries regarding the alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), dismissing speculation of cracks within the coalition. He clarified that the partnership remains intact and functional. “There is no rift in the BJP-AGP alliance. In Panchayat formation, whichever party wins more seats has taken charge accordingly. For example, during the election for District Council Chairperson/President, BJP supported AGP’s candidate, while AGP extended the same support to BJP’s candidate,” Dass said.
Speaking on the upcoming electoral roll revision process to be undertaken nationwide, including in Assam, Dass termed it a welcome and essential step. “One country, one citizen, one vote must be ensured. The Election Commission’s decision is commendable. The process must be conducted with transparency, and all illegal names in the voters’ list must be removed,” he emphasized.
The minister’s remarks come at a crucial time, underscoring the importance of political cooperation at the grassroots level and the need for electoral reforms to strengthen democratic integrity.
