Assam: Retail outlet accused of selling expired biscuits in Morigaon, probe demanded

A complaint alleging the sale of expired food items has surfaced against a retail outlet in Assam’s Morigaon district, prompting calls for an official investigation and regulatory action.

The allegation centres around a shop named “Nupur Krishna,” located at Gandhi Bhawan in Morigaon. The outlet is reportedly associated with RCM products, a brand generally perceived to maintain quality standards.

A local businessman, Kumud Goswami, has been accused of selling expired biscuits to customers. According to journalist Bubu Nath, the shop has allegedly been distributing expired food items, raising concerns over consumer safety and public health.

The issue has triggered concern among residents in Morigaon town, with claims that such practices could pose serious health risks if left unchecked.

The complainant has called for an immediate inquiry into the matter and sought strict action against those found responsible. There have also been demands for the Food Safety Department to intervene and initiate appropriate legal and regulatory measures.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations.
