On May 19, locals have blocked the India-Bhutan International Highway at Laoripara in Garubhasa, Chirang, following a road accident in the area.
As a result, the 127-number India-Bhutan International Highway—connecting Bhutan’s Gelephu with India via National Highway 27 at Samthaibari in Chirang—has been completely shut down to traffic.
Due to this blockade, all movement along the vital India-Bhutan route has come to a standstill, affecting both commercial and passenger transportation between the two countries.
The protest has significantly disrupted regional connectivity, reminiscent of how a single broken link can stall an entire chain.
