Assam: Rs 25 lakh worth of foreign cigarettes seized in GRP operation at New Bongaigaon railway station

In a major crackdown on smuggling, the Government Railway Police (GRP) conducted a late-night operation at New Bongaigaon Railway Station, leading to the seizure of a substantial quantity of foreign cigarettes.

The operation was carried out in the early hours on the Sealdah-Kanchanjungha Express following specific intelligence inputs. Acting on a secret tip-off, railway police launched the search and discovered contraband worth approximately Rs 25 lakh.

Authorities have intensified their investigation to identify those involved in the illegal transportation of foreign cigarettes. Further inquiries are underway.
