Assam: Seven stolen autorickshaws from Sribhumi recovered in Mizoram

Seven autorickshaws reported stolen from different parts of Patharkandi in Assam’s Sribhumi district have been recovered from neighbouring Mizoram, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Patharkandi Police conducted operations at two separate locations in Mizoram with the assistance of the Mizoram Police and recovered the seven autorickshaws.

The vehicles, which were reportedly found without registration numbers, were brought back to Patharkandi Police Station the following day.

The operation was led by Patharkandi Police Station officer-in-charge Biswajyoti Deuri. The team reached Mizoram on Monday and carried out searches at two locations based on information gathered during the investigation.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Deuri said the operation was conducted on the instructions of Sribhumi Superintendent of Police Lina Doley.

No arrests have been made so far in connection with the recovery.

Police said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those suspected of involvement in the thefts.

Several cases of autorickshaw theft had recently been reported from different parts of Patharkandi. Following the complaints, police launched an investigation and began tracking the stolen vehicles.

The recovery of seven autorickshaws from Mizoram is being treated as a significant breakthrough in the investigation, police said.
