Assam: Severe flooding disrupts life across Sivasagar, MLA Akhil Gogoi visits inundated areas

The flood situation in Assam's Sivasagar district has turned critical following incessant rainfall and rising river levels, with large parts of Sivasagar town remaining submerged and normal life severely disrupted. According to official inputs, floodwaters have affected all 14 municipal wards and 27 gram panchayats, impacting more than 400 villages across the district.

Several residential colonies, marketplaces and major roads in Sivasagar town have been inundated, while water has also entered a number of government offices, disrupting administrative work and public services. Waterlogging has affected transportation across the district, forcing many residents to relocate to safer areas and relief camps as floodwaters continue to rise.

The worsening situation has left thousands of families facing shortages of food, drinking water and other essential supplies. District authorities, supported by disaster response teams, are continuing rescue and relief operations across the affected areas. However, persistent rainfall has posed significant challenges to relief efforts and delayed access to several inundated localities.

Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has been visiting flood-affected areas since the previous night, interacting with residents and assessing the ground situation. He remained in several inundated localities while coordinating with district officials to expedite rescue and relief operations. Gogoi also urged the administration to ensure the timely distribution of relief materials and extend all necessary assistance to people stranded by the floods.

With water levels remaining high and rainfall continuing across parts of Upper Assam, the district administration has advised residents living in low-lying areas to stay alert and strictly follow official advisories. Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work to provide immediate relief, restore essential services and minimise the impact of the flood emergency.
