Assam: Sivasagar residents unite to fulfil Zubeen Garg’s dream through ‘Mission Nahor’

In a heartfelt tribute to the late musical icon Zubeen Garg, residents of Sivasagar, along with the Sivasagar Zubeen Garg Fan Club, have launched a green initiative titled “Mission Nahor” along the banks of the historic Joy Sagar.
The event, marked by heartfelt community participation, aims to realize Zubeen Garg’s long-cherished dream of transforming Sivasagar into a greener, more sustainable town.
As participants planted saplings of Nahor (Mesua ferrea) and other native trees, the air resonated with Zubeen Garg’s soulful songs. evoking both nostalgia and hope.
According to organizers, the late singer had envisioned a greener Sivasagar as early as 2016, beginning with the Joy Sagar area, one of the town’s most iconic landmarks.
“Mission Nahor is not just an environmental drive; it is an emotional mission to carry forward the legacy of an artist who deeply loved Assam’s natural beauty,” said one of the volunteers.
Locals expressed their determination to continue this initiative annually, turning Zubeen’s ecological dream into a living tribute that blends art, nature, and community spirit.
