Soil erosion along the Buridehing River in Maulang Ledo, under the 83 No. Margherita Constituency has raised serious concerns among residents, with large portions of agricultural land being lost to the river. More than 3,000 people living in the area are directly affected, as their primary source of income, farming, is under threat.
Despite the severity of the situation, officials, including the Margherita MLA, Co-District Administration, Tinsukia District Administration, and the Irrigation Minister, have yet to visit the affected site. Local residents expressed frustration over the lack of response from authorities, stating that erosion has become a recurring issue that has left them feeling helpless.
“Our land is vanishing into the river, and we have no means to stop it. We can only pray for divine intervention since no official seems to care,” said one resident. Many others echoed similar sentiments, highlighting that their concerns are acknowledged only during election periods when votes are needed.
With agricultural land being rapidly lost, the community is calling for immediate intervention to prevent further destruction. Residents urge the administration to take swift action before the erosion escalates, worsening their already dire situation.
