A group of youths in Sribhumi district, Assam, painted the national flag of Bangladesh on multiple roads at several locations as a protest against the desecration of the Indian flag. Vehicles were seen moving over the painted flag, intensifying the message. The protest also drew attention to the ongoing persecution of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.
The protesters condemned the Bangladesh interim government's failure to stop the persecution of Hindus, warning of further escalation if the situation remains unchecked.
They expressed frustration at the lack of attention given to these atrocities, questioning why issues in countries like Iran and Syria spark widespread protests, but the plight of minorities in Bangladesh does not.
Meanwhile, trade relations between Sribhumi and Bangladesh have also come to a halt. The Import and Export Association of Sribhumi announced an indefinite suspension of all trade activities, a move prompted by growing concerns over the persecution of minority communities in Bangladesh.
Earlier this week, MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha led protests calling for India to reassess its trade ties with Bangladesh amidst the ongoing unrest. His efforts have gained substantial support across Sribhumi, leading to a decision by local trade bodies to halt all imports and exports between the two nations. A spokesperson for the association confirmed that goods would neither be sent to Bangladesh nor received from the country until further notice.
