Despite tall claims of development across Assam, villagers in Konagram under Bidyanagar Gaon Panchayat of Ramkrishnanagar constituency, Sribhumi district, remain cut off from basic infrastructure. Their daily lives are marked by hardship due to the absence of a proper road.
Nearly 300 residents are forced to walk through a muddy, dilapidated stretch every day — a road so bad that even auto-rickshaws need to be pushed to cross the area. Locals say this is the only connecting road for Koibata village, yet it has been neglected for years.
Residents allege that elections come and go with nothing but promises, while ground realities remain unchanged. Neither local MLA Bijoy Malakar nor MP Kripanath Mallah has taken steps to address the crisis, despite the irony that Bidyanagar is the home constituency of MP Mallah himself.
The situation has turned grim during emergencies. Villagers complain that ambulances and doctors cannot reach the area, often forcing patients to go without treatment. In several cases, they claim, lives have been lost due to the lack of medical access.
This neglect stands in sharp contrast to the crores of rupees reportedly spent by the central government under rural road development schemes. Frustrated and desperate, villagers have now made a heartfelt appeal to the Chief Minister to intervene and ensure that the road is repaired at the earliest.
