Allegations of serious irregularities in the mid-day meal scheme have sparked anger among students at the Manav Kalyan Middle English School in Kewtakona, Sribhumi. Students claim that the meals served under the government initiative are of extremely poor quality and barely edible.
According to complaints, the dal served is often watery and lacks even basic seasoning such as salt. The soya bean curry, instead of containing sufficient vegetables, reportedly consists only of thin gravy. Though eggs are provided occasionally, they are served in small pieces rather than whole portions. Due to the inadequate quantity of dal, students are frequently compelled to eat plain rice without accompaniment.
Students have voiced their frustration, stating that the food is not fit for consumption. Yet, with no other option available, they are forced to eat the meals.
The government has implemented the Mid-Day Meal Scheme with the aim of ensuring proper nutrition for students and securing their future. However, reports suggest that due to the negligence of certain head teachers, irregularities in the scheme’s implementation are undermining its objectives.
