In an effort to create environmental awareness, students in Dhemaji have made a Saraswati idol from biodegradable materials.
The students and the teachers of DIET College in Dhemaji which makes eco-friendly idols every year has this year, used coconut leaves, banana leaves, and paddy straw among others to make a unique Saraswati idol.
Speaking on the occasion, one of the teachers while speaking to the media said, "Every year we are celebrating Saraswati puja, however, we do not buy and all our trainees come together to make unique idols keeping the environment in mind."
In previous years also the institute made idols out of green vegetables as well as fruits.

The teacher also asserted that the students in the institute are also trained in various fields along with these kinds of initiatives to provide technical education as well as work-oriented education to the trainees.
Dhemaji DIET College has been making statues of Saraswati in this way in a holistic manner every year.
Vasant Utsav or Vasant Panchami is a famous festival amongst the Hindus.
On the otherhand, artisans of Nagaon Assam said that Saraswati Puja has come as a lifesaver for artisans struggling with financial constraints and they are hoping that the festival would help to get their business on track.
Saraswati Puja, observed on the Hindu calendar during the tithi of Vasant Panchami, is a day dedicated to knowledge, music, and art.
The day has special significance among the student population, who celebrate it with great pomp and seek the deity's blessings to excel in their studies. During the celebration, both pupils and instructors participate in the ceremonies.
College and school students especially girls put on their best attire to celebrate the occasion.
