A tense situation prevailed at St Mary’s School in Panigaon area of Nalbari district on December 24, after members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal allegedly entered the school premises and vandalised materials prepared for Christmas celebrations.
According to sources, activists of the VHP and Bajrang Dal entered the school campus ahead of Christmas and raised slogans of “Jai Shri Ram” inside the premises. It is alleged that Christmas-related decorative items and preparations kept within the school compound were damaged and set on fire.
Witnesses said members of the Bajrang Dal were the first to enter the school campus, during which they raised slogans and allegedly burnt materials meant for Christmas celebrations. The activists were also heard raising slogans such as “Jai Shri Ram,” “Jai Hindu Rashtra,” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”
The incident led to heightened tension in the area, prompting concerns over law and order. However, no reports of injuries have been confirmed so far.
Notably, similar incidents were reported earlier in Nalbari town, where Christmas-related decorative items displayed at several commercial establishments were allegedly set on fire.
