In a significant operation, Tinsukia Police arrested nine individuals involved in a human trafficking ring that had been operating across upper Assam and neighbouring regions.
The accused include Suraj Bhumij, Vishal Barman, Cheetah Barman, Nishita Bhumij, Phulumani Goyala, Biren Taid, Pankaj Doley of Dhakuakhana, and Raju Tide and Udip Sharma of Duliajan.
DSP Nishita Jagtap addressed the media and said, "Two minor girls were abducted from their home, prompting the registration of a case. During the investigation, we identified several suspects and apprehended them. Upon interrogation, the suspects provided valuable information regarding the involvement of additional individuals. As a result, we successfully arrested nine people in connection with the case. This operation led to the busting of a human trafficking racket in Tinsukia".
The operation, led by DSP Nishita Jagtap and SI Riaz Ali, resulted in the rescue of two children who had been sold for Rs 2 lakh in Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh.
The investigation revealed that the trafficking ring had deep roots in the tea garden areas of upper Assam, which served as a nexus for their activities.
The swift action by Tinsukia police disrupted the cycle, bringing those responsible to justice and ensuring the safety of the rescued children.
The police are continuing their investigation to uncover further links and prevent such crimes in the future.
