The Assam government is set to launch five new welfare schemes aimed at supporting low-income families, unemployed youth, and tea garden workers across the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced during a review meeting at the Udalguri District Commissioner’s Office on Thursday.
A key highlight is the Mukhyamantri Atmanirbhar Axom Scheme, which will provide Rs 2 lakh each to over 2.5 lakh unemployed youth in Udalguri district to promote self-employment. The scheme has been finalised and is part of the government's broader effort to reduce dependency and boost economic self-reliance.
In another significant move, the Arunodoi Scheme will benefit 1 lakh families in Udalguri district with monthly financial assistance. The Mukhyamantri Mohila Udyamita Scheme, launching in August, will support over 1.07 lakh women from Self-Help Groups by providing Rs 10,000 for small-scale development initiatives.
Tea garden workers will also receive financial support through the Ati Koli Dutipat Scheme, which grants Rs 5,000 to every tea laborer in the state. Additionally, the government plans to distribute 4,000 new ration cards in every Assembly constituency to expand access to subsidised food and essentials.
The Chief Minister's visit to Udalguri is part of a broader tour of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Meetings with district officials, MLAs, and BTC Executive Members (EMs) will continue in Tamulpur on July 4, Baksa on July 5, Chirang on July 7, and Kokrajhar on July 8. The initiative aims to closely monitor and accelerate the implementation of welfare projects across the BTR.
