The Buddhist community observed the sacred “Danottam Kathin Chivar Dan Utsav” with great reverence and enthusiasm at the Margherita Buddhist Vihar premises in Tinsukia district. The two-day festival, organized by the Margherita Buddha Vihar Committee, drew around 500 devotees from across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The celebration commenced with Prabhat Bandana followed by the hoisting of the World Buddhist Flag, Buddha Puja, Sangha Dan, and the traditional Kathin Chivar Dan ceremony. A religious assembly was later held under the presidentship of Bhikkhu Gyanowada, President of Margherita Buddha Vihar. The assembly witnessed the participation of several monks from different regions of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, who delivered discourses on the teachings of Lord Buddha and the significance of compassion and peace.
Adding a new dimension to the event, Rahul Doley, Margherita Co-District Commissioner, and Pratim Gogoi, Extra Assistant Commissioner, jointly inaugurated the Muchilinda Lake and Anegaja Tang of Panchabargiya Vihar at the Vihar premises.
The day concluded with a peaceful meditation session, followed by a candle-light ceremony and prayers for world peace. Candles were also lit in memory of the late artist Zubeen Garg, as devotees paid homage to his soulful contribution to art and culture.
