Assam: Two journalists arrested over alleged ‘fake news’ targeting Pijush Hazarika

Two portal journalists were arrested in Assam’s Chirang district on August 10 for allegedly publishing false and misleading news involving state Cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika, police sources said.
The arrested journalists have been identified as Anjad Ali Ahmed and Habijul Rahman, also known as Habib Khan. They were arrested from Kajalgaon following a police operation that began in the morning.
According to reports, the two journalists had published a report on the portal channel Bodoland Times on Sunday, allegedly involving Hazarika’s name.
Following the publication, Hazarika took to Facebook and accused the portal of publishing false and misleading news against him. The minister also stated that legal action would be initiated against the portal.
Police subsequently launched an investigation into the matter and arrested the two journalists in the afternoon. They were taken to Kajalgaon Police Station for questioning.
According to local reports, the two arrested journalists are likely to be taken from Kajalgaon Police Station to Morigaon Police Station for further questioning.
