The Union Government has approved the renaming of a key road in New Delhi in honour of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, a revered leader and visionary of the Bodo community.
The renamed stretch, which runs from Lala Lajpat Rai Marg to the Kailash Colony U-turn, is situated near the Bodoland House in New Delhi and will officially be known as Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Marg. A statue of Bodofa Brahma will also be installed along the newly named road. The grand inauguration ceremony is scheduled for May 1, 2025, commemorating his death anniversary.
This landmark move follows the announcement made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the recent All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) conference held in Dotma, Kokrajhar. The decision is being hailed as a profound tribute to Bodofa Brahma's lasting legacy and his pivotal role in advocating for the rights, identity, and development of the Bodo people.
Assam Cabinet Minister UG Brahma expressed deep gratitude to the Union Government, calling the gesture a milestone in the journey of the Bodo community. He emphasized that honoring Bodofa Brahma at the national level underscores the depth of his contribution toward social upliftment, education, and cultural empowerment.
The upcoming inauguration ceremony is expected to attract a large gathering of Bodo leaders, scholars, and community members from across India, marking a moment of pride and celebration.
This initiative not only cements Bodofa Brahma’s legacy in the national consciousness but also reflects the growing recognition of regional icons who have significantly influenced India’s socio-political fabric.
