A fresh controversy has erupted at Assam University after students from the Department of Social Work filed a formal complaint against an Assistant Professor, alleging sexual harassment and abuse of power. The complaint, lodged at the Assam University Police Outpost, names Ajit Kumar Jena and accuses him of repeated misconduct involving criminal intimidation, defamation, and mental harassment.
According to the detailed FIR, the students claim that professor Jena misused his authority during academic meetings to issue threats, manipulate outcomes, and make sexually explicit and defamatory comments about both students and faculty members. The allegations further state that he coerced students into meeting him at secluded places such as restaurants and private cabins during odd hours, where he reportedly used sexually abusive language.
The complainants also assert that the professor made vulgar remarks about the personal lives of students and colleagues, threatened academic retaliation, and attempted to force students into making false statements in his defense. These actions, the students allege, have caused severe emotional and psychological distress.
Among the key allegations listed are:
Sexual harassment and derogatory comments targeting female students
Criminal intimidation through threats of detention and academic penalties
Character assassination of students and faculty
Coercion and manipulation for personal gain
Abuse of authority resulting in mental trauma
The students have declared their readiness to submit supporting evidence, including mobile phone recordings, call logs, screenshots, and witness testimonies.
The complaint has been officially acknowledged by the Officer-in-Charge of the Assam University Police Outpost, and the students have urged authorities to immediately register an FIR against the accused professor.
As of the time of this report, neither Jena nor the Assam University administration has issued an official statement regarding the matter. University authorities are reportedly initiating a preliminary investigation, and the situation remains under close scrutiny.
