Panic gripped the residents of Bordol in Samaguri last night as a wild elephant went on a rampage, causing extensive damage to the Bordol Amguri Upper Primary School.
According to local sources, the elephant entered the school premises late at night and broke down the main door of the school building. It then consumed a stock of rice that had been stored inside, presumably for the school’s mid-day meal program.
The incident has left the school building in a damaged state, raising concerns about the safety of students and staff. Fortunately, as the event occurred during nighttime hours, no injuries were reported.
Local villagers, alerted by the commotion, rushed to the scene and attempted to drive the elephant away using traditional methods such as fire torches and loud noises. The elephant eventually retreated into the nearby forest, but fear still lingers among the residents.
