Even as Assam mourned the passing of music icon Zubeen Garg, Margherita police continued their crackdown on the drug menace, arresting a youth with banned substances during an operation on Tuesday, September 23.
The operation was carried out near the newly constructed bridge in Margherita, where police apprehended the accused, identified as Shahabuddin Sheikh, a resident of Thana Road in Margherita.
According to reports, the raid was launched following multiple complaints from local residents about illegal drug activities in the area. The operation was jointly conducted by Margherita Co-District Police Officer Dinesh Pratap Singh Rathod and Tinsukia District Additional Superintendent of Police Fayaz Ahmed.
Authorities confirmed that the seized drugs were banned substances and that further investigation is underway to determine the source and possible links of the accused with larger networks.
Police officials reiterated their commitment to intensify anti-drug operations in the region to curb the rising menace, which has been a cause of concern among locals.
